Nutritional Therapy

I combine naturopathy with nutrition. During the consultation I take an in-depth case history, concentrating on prevailing issues. I can help with:

  • Weight loss
  • Sports nutrition
  • Digestive problems
  • Depression and hormonal issues
  • Low energy and lethargy
  • Skin disorders
  • Allergies and sensitivities
  • Improving general health

It seems that there is much conflicting and ever-changing information in the general media that it is extremely difficult for the average person to know what information to trust.

Often there are short-lived revelations about the current cure all wonder food. Whilst these headlines may offer some truth, they are often lead by marketing media to sell the product, or there has been a limited amount of given information about a half completed trial which may suggest certain health benefits of a 'wonder food'.

As a qualified nutritional therapist I endeavour to understand the biochemistry behind these theories. I often feel the so called 'wonder foods' do have health benefits, although I may disagree with the quantities needed to fulfil such allegations and disapprove of the suggestion that that particular food is good for each and every individual approach.

As a nutritional therapist I treat each person as an individual. Every person has a unique genetic makeup and is the sum of all their life experiences which is consequential in switching genes on and off, therefore influencing their state of health.

I believe YOU are the person in charge of your body, health and fitness. I am here to educate and encourage people to make the right choices regarding their food and drink intake. Making changes to ones diet and lifestyle is a major thing and I hope to provide adequate support to those who wish to improve their health.

The consultation will take up to two hours, as I will go into detail about the type food consumed, at what times of day, the quantities and reasons for eating it. A full case history is also taken on previous and present illnesses, medication history, family history of illnessess, blood type, stress levels and sleep patterns. Presenting issues will be addressed, and a protocol will be designed for the individuals requirements. As most complaints usually appear gradually, it will take time for the condition to improve. With optimum nutritional requirements for the individual, sometimes deficiencies in nutrients will require supplements until the deficiency is settled. I give alternative and healthier food options which are easy to use given the persons lifestyle.

I may find it necessary at times to record body weight, and body measurements if weight loss is desired. Such tests as zinc deficiency test and tongue and nail observations help identify vitamin and mineral deficiencies. A blood glucose test may also be given.
